Tunnel-farming demonstration site in Siddarthanagar, Rupandehi

04 Feb, 2022
As a part of GRAPE project’s support to cooperatives and (M)SMEs during and after the COVID-19 pandemic cooperation GRAPE has supported the setting up of a tunnel-farming demonstration site in Siddarthanagar (Rupandehi). There local farmers interested in climate-smart agriculture can take advantage of on-field learning and innovation opportunities. Initiated by the local cooperative Nepal Bahaumukhi Cooperative Ltd, the demo-farm showcases drip irrigation technology and sustainable approaches to pesticide and fertilizer usage.

The first batch of 20 farmers of Siddarthanagar Municipality has been trained on climate-smart tunnel farming and received agricultural input support as well as post-training technical backstopping. On top of that, the demo-farm’s first harvest yielded 215 kg of tomatoes. Taking note of these production successes, farmers from nearby localities have started to visit the farm to observe and learn. Nepal Bahaumukhi Cooperative Ltd. is taking over the funding of future trainings, having gained confidence in the demo-farm.
